APPLICATIONS AND EVALUATION CRITERIA

Now in its fourth year, the Ibrahim Bodur Social Entrepreneurship Awards have reached out to many social entrepreneurs, receiving applications from all over Turkey in its first three years. The Ibrahim Bodur Social Entrepreneurship Awards welcome all projects, in start-up or scale-up stage, without any category restrictions while also marking a first-of-its-kind with its collaboration award.

Start-up Award

Yes. When evaluating applications, the Ibrahim Bodur Social Entrepreneurship Awards primarily focuses on aspects such as team structures and budgets rather than the presence of a legal entity.

The pilot practice has led to a better understanding of the needs in the relevant field and a business plan is in place to eliminate the shortcomings of the pilot practice.

The social enterprise has an annual budget, with a defined income and expense forecast. The application form must include potential income-generating activities.

Applicants applying to the awards will be subject to an individual evaluation for qualification and credibility. Applicants must uphold social interest instead of personal or commercial interest, not be affiliated with any political, religious or other group, and not demonstrate any discriminative or violent approaches in their work and discourse.

Scale-up Award

The social enterprise is launched as a pilot practice across a wide geography and continues to roll out. The applicant has data to prove the long-term effects of the social enterprise.

The project has a comprehensive value proposition for relevant field of activity. The entrepreneur’s priority is to eradicate the systemic problems that underlie the problem.

The social enterprise has been active for more than one year. It has a budget for the following year. It is successfully implementing at least one income-generating activity, including donations and funds.

Applicants applying to the awards will be subject to an individual evaluation for qualification and credibility. Applicants must uphold social interest instead of personal or commercial interest, not be affiliated with any political, religious or other group, and not demonstrate any discriminative or violent approaches in their work and discourse.

Collaboration Award

The applicant has initiated cooperation between two organisations to increase social impact. The collaboration has a proven positive social impact.

The cooperation sets an example in Turkey. The cooperation has created a social impact that neither party could have achieved alone.

There is a defined budget for the cooperation, with defined income and expense items. The applicant is able to provide relevant data if requested.

Applicants applying to the awards will be subject to an individual evaluation for qualification and credibility. Applicants must uphold social interest instead of personal or commercial interest, not be affiliated with any political, religious or other group, and not demonstrate any discriminative or violent approaches in their work and discourse.

What is the aim of the Ibrahim Bodur Social Entrepreneurship Awards?

The Ibrahim Bodur Social Entrepreneurship Awards were launched to keep the memory and legacy of Kale Group’s founder Ibrahim Bodur, who passed away in 2016, alive. Building on Ibrahim Bodur’s ‘people first’ philosophy, the awards aim to provide financial support to social entrepreneurs.

I’ve got an idea too… Can I apply?

The Ibrahim Bodur Social Entrepreneurship Awards recognise social entrepreneurs who have already launched a pilot program. Accordingly, the awards to not support ideas.

Can Kale Group employees apply to the Ibrahim Bodur Social Entrepreneurship Awards?

In line with our transparency, fairness and equality principles we do not accept applications from Kale Group employees.

Can I apply to more than one category?

Applications to the Ibrahim Bodur Social Entrepreneurship Awards will be assessed in the category that applicants choose. Applicants may apply to any category that they think their application fits in with. However, it is not possible to apply to multiple categories.

Is there an age limit to apply to the Ibrahim Bodur Social Entrepreneurship Awards?

There is no age limit to apply to the Ibrahim Bodur Social Entrepreneurship Awards. We accept applications from social entrepreneurs of all ages.

Do you disclose the information on the application form to third parties?

We do not disclose the information provided on the application form to any third persons or organisations that are not part of the project. Only Kale Group officials, the Ashoka Turkey team and jury members have access to the information that applicants provide on their form.

What are the evaluation steps?

In the pre-evaluation phase, Kale Group officials and the Ashoka Turkey team assess all of the applications that applicants have submitted online before the deadline. After this step, the Pre-Evaluation Board will convene to determine the applications that will be at the jury’s evaluation phase. A reference check will then be made for the applications. The reference check will include all of the references stated on the application form as well as independent references. A total of 11 applications that pass the pre-evaluation stage will be shortlisted and assessed by the jury. Then, the jury will convene to evaluate the applications. The winning applicants will be contacted shortly after this meeting.

Do you only accept online applications?

Yes. All you have to do is fill out the application form on our website. Once we receive your application you will receive an automatic confirmation that you have joined the evaluation process.

How much is the prize money?

We will provide support to winning entrants with a prize of 50,000 TL each in the Scale-up Stage, Start-up Stage and Collaboration categories, reaching 150,000 TL in total.

We’ve got a pilot project up and running. However, we do not have a legal entity (company, associationetc.). Can we still apply?

Evet. İbrahim Bodur Sosyal Girişimcilik Ödülü değerlendirme sürecinde tüzel kişiliğin varlığından ziyade ekip yapısı ve bütçe gibi konulara öncelik verilecektir.

Application & Process

The Ibrahim Bodur Social Entrepreneurship Awards will be handed out in three categories: Start-up Award, Scale-up Award, Collaboration Award. Following the pre-evaluation after application deadline, five Start-up Award, three Scale-up Award and three Collaboration Award will be shortlisted and submitted to the jury for evaluation.
